Document the IV Insertion Details

  1. Click Add.
    The ASC IV template opens.
  2. Click the Attempt # field and select the IV insertion attempt number.
    You can select the top-blank row in the list and enter the appropriate value in the Attempt # field.

    The current system time and username appear in the Insertion time field and the Inserted by field respectively.

  3. To change the time, click the drop-down arrow next to the Insertion time field.
    The Time Entry template opens.
    1. Enter the appropriate time when the IV was inserted into the patient and click OK. The documented time appears in the Insertion time field.
    2. If you click the clock , the current system time appears in the Insertion time field.
  4. Click Location and select the location where the IV is inserted.
    • If the options in the list are not appropriate, click the top-blank row in the list and enter a value in the Location field.
  5. Select an appropriate value from the fields described below:
    • Anesthetic agent used - Select anesthetic agent used on the IV site prior to insertion.
    • Cannula or needle - Select the size of the needle for the IV.
    • Successful - Select Yes or No from the list to indicate whether or not the IV insertion attempt was successful. If you select No, the fields associated with the removal of IV are not available for documentation.
    • Insertion site condition - Select the IV insertion site condition(s) and click Close on the list.
  6. If applicable, click Inserted by and select the appropriate nurse or medical assistant who inserted the IV into the patient.
  7. Enter any additional Comments.

  8. To add a new IV insertion details, click Add New.
    The left and the right arrows are used to navigate to the previous or the next available entries respectively.
    • You can also click the label Entry to select the required entry from the picklist.
  9. Click Save & Close.
    The documented IV insertion details appear in the grid in the IV panel.
  10. To remove an IV record from the grid, select a row in the grid and click Remove.
