Automatic Calculation for Parity Values

You can correct and automatically calculate a patient’s current parity values. The automatic calculation of parity allows you to make corrections to a patient’s parity if they are incorrect. In the Pregnancy History grid, without adding the details of each associated pregnancy, you can quickly document a patient’s current parity values. You can also view all patients within the practice that have disparate parity detail information. The following is automatically calculated in the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine system: Gravidity is the sum of full term, abortion, and ectopic pregnancies and are automatically calculated. A current pregnancy if any is calculated in this count. Parity is calculated in TPAL format (T for total number of full term births; P for total number of preterm births; A for total number of abortions; and L for total number of living children). Automatic Calculation of Parity in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Synopsis Template

You can automatically calculate parity in the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) Synopsis template. The automatic calculation of patient's parity values allows practices to automatically calculate parity when pregnancy outcomes are entered in the templates. The automatic calculation includes the calculation of living children, NSVD and C-Section excluding multiple births. The parity auto-calculation includes a setting on the Practice Configuration template that gives the practice the ability to activate or deactivate the automatic calculation of parity. By default, the setting is deactivated. When the setting is activated, if the parity detail data is discrepant an application message displays on the templates and the system do not automatically calculate the parity for that patient until the user corrects the discrepant data. Document the Pregnancy Outcomes Template

You can document information in the Pregnancy Outcomes template. The Pregnancy Outcomes template provides you the ability to view and modify a patient’s gravidity and parity. You can view and modify the total parity values with or without the details of each pregnancy. Minimal required fields are Pregnancy Entry Type, Pregnancy #, and Delivery Type. It is preferable, on an OB initial visit to use the gravidity/parity fields and Pregnancy Outcomes templates from within the OB templates. When you activate parity auto-calculation, parity automatically calculates the details when you document historical pregnancy or end a current pregnancy When you select End current pregnancy the Gravidity reflects a non-pregnant status. This option is used on a postpartum or post-abortion visit and not on an initial prenatal visit. On the Patient Information Card in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, select OBGYN.The OBGYN Synopsis template opens. Select the Add/Update Detail button in the OBGYN Synopsis template.

Obstetrics

Obstetrics section The Parity detail auto calculation section is used to activate the automatic calculation of parity at the point of care when the pregnancy outcomes are entered. When the parity automatic calculations feature is turned off, the text "Parity auto-calculations not activated" appears. When you activate the Parity automatic calculate feature, the system adds a log in the OB Audit Log practice template. On the OB Audit Log practice template, you need to select the Parity detail auto calculation log type and the date range to view the items that have discrepancies in the parity numbers when compared to the pregnancy history grid entries. If the parity automatic calculation feature is turned on, the green text Auto-calculation appears on the Pregnancy Outcomes and OBGYN Synopsis templates. If the parity detail data is discrepant between the Pregnancy History grid and parity details fields on the Pregnancy Outcomes and OBGYN Synopsis templates, an alert message appears on the

Activate Automatic Calculation Parity Option

You can activate the automatic calculation parity option in the Practice Configuration template. You can activate the Parity auto-calculation activated setting iin the Practice Configuration practice template. This setting allows you to select whether to automatically calculate parity at the point of care when pregnancy outcomes are entered. You can select the checkbox to automatically calculate the parity when documenting the pregnancy outcome. When this option is activated all Parity Detail fields become read-only. The parity data must match the Pregnancy Outcome entries in the Pregnancy Outcomes grid. The automatic calculation function remains incomplete until the data is synchronized. If you do not select this option you have to manually update the parity details. When a user activates this functionality, it creates a log on the OB Audit Log practice template. Reconciling Parity Data

You can reconcile parity data on the OBGYN Synopsis or Pregnancy Outcomes templates. The NextGen Healthcare system finds and notifies you of any discrepancies in the pregnancy outcomes detail data in a patient chart. If any of this data is not in sync, meaning the pregnancy outcomes detail data in the shared fields on the OBGYN Synopsis and Pregnancy Outcomes templates does not match the pregnancy outcomes detail data in the Pregnancy history grid, you receive an application message. Note that in these cases, auto-calculation continues to function and is not turned off. The system changes the color of the fields to yellow to identify the location of the discrepancy in the white editable parity fields. To reconcile the parity data, you must make edits to either the shared fields on the OBGYN Synopsis or Pregnancy Outcomes templates, or to the data in the Pregnancy history grid on the Pregnancy Outcomes template.
