Care Guidelines	Activate and manage orderable items (formerly protocols) and recommended care items (care guidelines) for the patient.	Orderable items are configured on the Care Guidelines Setup practice template. Recommended care items are configured on the Recommended Care practice template. Care Guidelines can be configured to open the Orders module when placing orders for guideline items on the Practice Configuration template. You can overview all the information for care guidelines workflow to document the details for a patient. The workflow summary for care guidelines includes an overview of all information that can be documented or reviewed for a patient. Not all information or panels are available on both of the Care Guidelines templates and consists of following panels: Care Guidelines The Care Guidelines panel appears on both the Care Guidelines Paged View and Care Guidelines grid view templates. Current active guideline items for this patient appear on the panel. You can document the care guidelines details for a patient using the Care Guideline Grid View template. The Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines grid view template displays the items that are due for the patient. You can view the following panels on the Care Guidelines grid view template: Care Guidelines Recent Orders Screening Questions Metrics Vital Signs Immunizations Nutrition Drug Therapy The Care Guidelines grid view template offers basic functionality for activating and tracking guidelines for the patient. You can document the diagnostic studies that are performed previously or elsewhere on the Diagnostic History Entry template using the Diagnostics link on the Care Guidelines grid view template. You can document studies completed previously or performed elsewhere and capture their LOINC® or SNOMED® codes, screening questions and a patient’s history with drug therapy using the Care Guidelines History link on the Historical Test – Quick Entry template. Care Guidelines Grid View

You can follow a disease or condition and health maintenance during a patient encounter on the Care Guidelines grid view template. The Care Guidelines grid view template displays only active guideline items that are due in a data grid in the Care Guidelines panel. Workflow on the Care Guidelines grid view template starts in the Care Guidelines panel. To use the care guidelines system with a patient, you have to activate a guideline. Then you can perform the tasks of reviewing and updating the status of individual guideline items in the Care Guidelines panel. Care Guidelines The activities include: Activate new or update current active care guidelines for the patient Document and update risk indicators for health maintenance Review, place orders, and update the status of guideline items Review and update diagnostic studies performed prior or elsewhere The Care Guidelines grid view template also provides access to additional information that providers may find helpful, such as screening

Care Guidelines Introduction

You can control the functions for a patient using the Care Guidelines template. In NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, the Care Guidelines templates are used to handle health maintenance and disease management functions, including guideline testing and screening, and recommended care. The Care Guidelines templates are available from all the specialty template sets. CAUTION: The Care Guidelines templates are used in a clinical setting with patients. Individuals responsible for maintaining the system need to carefully review the content available on the templates. You can update the content as necessary to meet the needs of the practice. Open the Care Guidelines Template You can open the Care Guidelines template using the Care Guidelines link. You can record the activities for a disease, condition, and health maintenance during a patient encounter on the Care Guidelines Paged View template. The Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines Paged View template has additional functionalities that are not available on the Care Guidelines grid view template. The activities performed during a patient encounter include: Activate a new care guideline Update a current active care guidelines Review, place orders, and update the status of guideline items Review and manage recent orders Review immunizations and track metrics Record immunization orders Review additional information that you may find helpful Decline or exclude a guideline permanently Decline or exclude a guideline for an encounter Reactivate or update a guideline that is declined or excluded in a previous encounter without having to reapply the entire guideline Modify individual active guideline items at the patient level. Compare Care Guidelines Panel in Paged and Grid Views

You can compare Care Guidelines panel in paged and grid views. The Care Guidelines panel has a different appearance and enhanced functionality when it is on the Care Guidelines Paged View template from how it appears and functions on the original Care Guidelines grid view template. The following table describes the differences. Task Performed Care Guidelines Paged View Care Guidelines Grid View Active guideline items displayed. Appear on template in a paged format with a navigation toolbar at the bottom. On the Paged View template, all items for an active guideline appear on the panel. Appear on template in grid format. On the Care Guidelines grid view template, only items for active guidelines that are due appear on the panel. Place orders for current active orderable items. Select the checkbox corresponding to the guideline item to order and then select Place Order. Orders for labs and radiology can be configured to be ordered directly from the Order module.
