Obtaining Test or Code Information to be Mapped

You can obtain test or code information to map with the corresponding care guidelines on the practice templates. If it is available, obtain a list of the specific CPT® or test codes and descriptions that are used by your practice for each guideline. If the list is not available, you can review the procedures in this step to gather the codes and descriptions that are required to map the tests to guidelines. After the information is gathered, the tests can then be mapped to the corresponding guideline. Note: After you have the information for the test codes and descriptions to be mapped to corresponding care guidelines, you can proceed to mapping the codes on the practice templates. Mapping the Test or Code Information on the Practice Setup Templates

You can map the test or code information using the Care Guidelines Setup practice template. After you have acquired the codes and descriptions for each guideline, they need to be added as mappings to the care guidelines setup for the practice. You can review the Guideline Equivalents/Alternatives on the Care Guidelines Setup practice template. You can review the Test Codes data set in the Data Sets Setup practice template. Set Up Tests and Orders to Update Care Guidelines

You can set up tests and orders to update care guidelines for a patient. A care guideline status is updated to completed when all of the following conditions are met: The ordering code (or description) is added to the guideline's list of Interventions/Test Equivalent Codes/Descriptions. The completed order type for the patient matches with the guideline type that is set. For example, lab guidelines will only update from lab orders. The order has both a valid Completed Date or Received Date along with a Completed or Results Received status. Mapping can be used to set up tests and orders to update guidelines, simplifying workflow in the process. Care Guidelines Setup

On the Care Guidelines Setup template, you can set up the guidelines test items. Care guidelines consist of orderable items (previously known as protocols) and recommended care items. Some guideline items are performed within a specific time interval, indicated by a date in the Due column. Items with due dates are ordered, and items without a due date are listed as a reminder to review them with the patient and update their status without having to place orders. Before you use the Care Guidelines panel on the Care Guidelines templates, you must review and ensure that the guidelines that come with the application meet the needs of the practice. For configuration, care guidelines are divided into orderable and recommended items. Using the Care Guidelines Setup practice template, you can set up orderable items. Setting Up Care Guidelines for Use

You can set up the care guidelines for a patient and document the details on the Care Guidelines template. In NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, the Care Guidelines template is used to handle Health Maintenance and Disease Management functions, including guideline testing and screening, and recommended care. You can open the Care Guidelines template using the Care Guidelines link, in the top navigation tabs of all the main tabbed templates for every specialty. CAUTION: Before using the Care Guidelines template in a clinical setting with patients, content on the template should be carefully reviewed by the individuals who are responsible for maintaining the system. Custom Templates with Custom Order Triggers

You can customize the templates with custom order triggers to satisfy a care guideline. If you have a customized template that are not NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine templates, and is used to upload the completed orders for patients, it is still possible to map test or code information to update care guidelines. While individual table or template fields cannot be used, almost any order that is submitted from a template with an Upload Extended Data trigger to the order_ table can be mapped to update a guideline. Review the details of the triggers on the template to obtain the test or code information being inserted to the order_ table. Also verify that the details of the Upload Extended Data trigger are correct and valid for the guideline that is being updated.
