Add HPI Reasons for Ambulatory Surgery

You can add an History of Present Illness (HPI) reason for ambulatory surgery. The HPI reason represent the different procedures for the specialty. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the ASC Procedure Config practice template and expand the Configure Procedure Indications panel. Configure Procedure Indications panel Note: The Chief complaint section is not applicable for the ambulatory surgery specialty. Enter a reason for the HPI. Enter the provider for the reason for visit.The new reason is saved when a new section is added for that reason. Add Custom Links for a Chief Complaint

When you add new links, the spelling, case, and punctuation must be identical to the link that is added the History of Present Illness (HPI) section of the Framework Content template. In the Manage Custom Links template, with the filters set appropriately, click the Link to field to select Chief complaint to HPI po up to launch from the resulting list. To populate the Chief Complaint field, do one of the following: To base the new link on an existing one, select the appropriate row to automatically populate the fields. To create a new link from scratch, type the complaint name in the field Click the following fields and select the appropriate options to which the custom link is applicable: Popup to Gender Age Click Add. The newly created custom link is added to the grid and a confirmation message displays. To create additional values, click Clear. You may need to reset the filters. Dynamic HPI Templates

In the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine templates, the following types of History of Present Illness (HPI) templates are used to document a patient's reason for visiting the office: Static HPI - displays hard-coded content that is not easily customizable; a single template is available for each complaint with options for selecting pre-determined details: the final concatenation is available when you close the template Dynamic HPI - enables you to add, edit, update, and delete dynamic content for the HPI and concatenates the content on the template as items are selected or edited. NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine is packaged with pre-configured dynamic HPI templates for the Gastroenterology, Physical Therapy, Orthopedics, Urology, and Pediatrics Well Child. Templates Used to Customize a Dynamic HPI

You can manage History of Present Illness (HPI) sections and findings in the dynamic format on five practice templates and one system template. Dynamic HPI Config Practice Template

The Dynamic HPI Config practice template enables you to configure elements for the dynamic History of Present Illness (HPI) templates. Each dynamic HPI template is linked to a specific reason for visit. The dynamic HPI templates that are packaged with NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine can be modified to meet the specific needs of a practice. If there is a need for a custom reason for visit, the practice can create a custom template. Data sets for labs, diagnostics, and procedures can be configured in the Section and Finding sections. New sections such as family history, lab data, and diagnostic data can be configured for a reason for visit. The new sections appear in the dynamic HPI template in the left pane under the Reason field in run time. The Contradiction setup link enables you to create guidelines that prevent users from selecting clinically contradictory findings. The Edit/Create new sentence link launches the Dynamic HPI Sentence Config template, which enables you to configure

Set Up HPIs to Appear in the Reason for Visit

You can set up the History of Present Illness (HPI) to appear in the reason for visit. A practice can configure the Reason for Visit panel using the Framework Content system template. For more information on the reason for visit configuration, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Framework Content System Template for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From the File menu, select System \ Practice Template. The Select Template window opens. In the Show section, select All. To open the Framework Content template, double-click Framework Content. Select Specialty and select a specialty from the list. Expand the Reason for Visit panel. In Filter, select the all option. Select the reason for visit linked to the appropriate History of Present Illness (HPI), which you want to add to the all list in the Reason for Visit list.
