Mirth® Connect Advanced Clustering

Mirth® Connect has the ability to run in a clustered environment to provide high availability and improved performance. Mirth® Connect is likely installed on your appliance, which means there is a Mirth® Connect entry in the Applications menu that provides access to the configuration windows for Mirth® Connect clustering. Mirth® Connect can run in a clustered environment to provide high availability and improved performance when you are using the Advanced Clustering plugin, which is available to Platinum subscribers. You can set up two appliances, previously set up with database replication and automatic failover, and the Mirth® Connect Clustering plugin, to provide a highly-available network endpoint for message processing backed by a single, highly-available database. Download the Advanced Clustering Plug-in

You must download the Advanced Clustering plug-in, from the Success Community website to install and set-up the plug-in. This plug-in is available for Mirth® Connect version 3.2.2 or greater. Log on to Success Community. In the Hot Topics section, select View More to view the full list of hot topics. In the Search field, search for "connect" to limit the search to Connect-specific topics, and then select Mirth Connect Download Central. On the Mirth Connect Download Central page, select the Advanced Clustering link to go to the Advanced Clustering Plug-In URL page. Select the link corresponding to your version of Mirth® Connect by NextGen Healthcare to start the download. About Advanced Clustering Configuration

When the Advanced Clustering plugin is installed, the Clustering tab appears on the Settings page in Mirth® Connect. The following clustering features are available to Platinum subscribers who are using the Advanced Clustering plugin: Heartbeat Each node in the cluster records a heartbeat at a regular interval that all other nodes in the cluster monitors to detect a failure. Active/Active Mode Multiple nodes receive inbound messages through a round-robin load-balancer provided by the appliance. One node in the cluster is automatically designated to run polling channels and execute the data pruner on its defined schedule. Nodes may be added or removed on the fly. Database Replication The appliance provides a highly available, clustered database. If the primary database node fails, the standby database automatically takes its place. Benefits of a Shared Database All nodes in the cluster share the same set of channels. Modifications to channels are effective for the entire cluster. You have the ability to view and manage messages processed by any node in the cluster from a single Message Browser window.

Run the Mirth® Connect Clustering Setup Wizard

(On the primary appliance) In the navigation bar, click Applications, and select Mirth Connect > Manage > Clustering > Wizard. Image of the Wizard option on the Applications menu. Follow the steps in the wizard. Note: You only need to run the wizard on one server in the cluster, and it will configure all servers as needed. The wizard will prompt you to upload the Advanced Clustering plugin zip file. Use the file you downloaded from Success Community. About Automatic Message Takeover

The Advanced Clustering plugin improves the availability of your cluster by providing automatic message takeover. If a server in the cluster fails, another server automatically resumes processing any queued/unfinished messages from the failed server; no manual intervention is required. Message takeover occurs as soon as the server is detected as being offline and unfinished/queued messages are found that are associated with that server. The takeover server re-assigns the messages to itself and immediately begins processing them. If a server fails, an INFO-level message appears in the log of the server that took over messages.
