Set Default Transaction Codes for Pre-Services Payment or Bad Debt Transaction

When you open the Payment Entry window from the Estimate Patient Cost window to make a payment, transaction codes already selected in the practice preferences are utilized by default. If you want to change transaction codes, you can change them as desired in the Payment Entry window. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM and select Admin > Preferences > Practice. On the Practice Preferences window, select Tran Codes from the preference list. In the Default Transaction Codes section, do the following: To make an advance payment, select a transaction code from Pre-Service Payment To make a transaction for a bad-debt encounter, select a transaction code from Pre-Service Bad Debt Select OK. Configuring Pre-Services Practice Preferences

Before you perform or complete the cost estimation in NextGen® Enterprise PM, your administrator can set the preferences for Pre-Services in the Practice Preferences window. However, setting the practice preferences is not mandatory. If you are an administrator, your preferred selections for pre-services determine the following values in cost estimation: Percentage of payment that the patient agrees to pay in advance Co-pay or deductible values in the patient's insurance information Allowed amount Coinsurance amount For descriptions of the fields for the Pre-Services preferences, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the File Maintenance Preferences Guide forNextGen®Enterprise. The Pre-Services practice preferences enable you to: Specify the payment percentage the patient wants to make for a service in advance. Control updating co-pay and deductible components at the insurance maintenance level. Set preferences for obtaining the allowed amount for cost estimation. Enable Charge Discounts in Practice Preferences

Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the Admin menu, select Preferences, and then Practice. The Practice Preferences window opens. Note: This setting affects the patient discount calculation while using an adjustment transaction code when source is a patient. Insurance discount using an adjustment transaction code when source is the third party is calculated based on the total charge amount, regardless of this setting. In the Preference List, select Charge Entry, and then select the Charges tab. Select Enable discounts in charge entry to enable charge discounts in the Charge Posting window. Note: The Discounts icon becomes available on the Charge Posting toolbar, and the Discounts Criteria section in the Transaction Codes window. Set Up Sliding Fee Preferences for Cost Estimation

You must complete the following sliding fee practice preferences before the cost estimation. In NextGen® Enterprise PM, open Admin > Preferences > Practice. The Practice Preferences window opens. In Preference List, select Sliding Fee. The sliding fee practice preferences appear. Select If amount due is less than minimum value or flat rate, do not slide. Note: Selecting this option prevents positive sliding fee adjustments that increase the amount due up to the defined minimum value or flat rate. This occurs in cases where the balance is less than the minimum value/flat rate. To enable real time sliding during charge posting, select Real- Time Adjustments from the Sliding Fee Adjustment Type list. Select OK. Parent topic: Sliding Fee in Cost Estimation
