Reversing Adjustments When the Insurance has Changed

When a user is changing the insurance on an encounter, the application issues a prompt that enables you to reverse automatic adjustments on the encounter. To reverse the adjustments and remove the insurance, you can select Yes. To keep the original insurance attached to the encounter, you can select No. When a user deletes insurance from an encounter, the application displays a prompt that enables the user to reverse automatic adjustments on the encounter when the insurance is deleted. To reverse the adjustments and delete the insurance, you can select Yes. Retroactively Correct Automatic Adjustments

You can retroactively correct automatic adjustments when a contract is changed in a payer. Note: Encounters with third party payments are not eligible for automated reversal and replacement of automatic adjustments that have taken place. From the main menu, select File > Processes > Reverse Automatic Adjustments. The Reverse Automatic Adjustments window opens. In the Contracts field, select a contract and then in the Charge Dt From and To fields, enter a date range. Select Find. The application searches for applicable charges in encounters with the following criteria: Status of Unbilled, Billed, Rebilled, and/or History Primary payer is attached to selected contract Charge service Begin Date in defined date range The contract allowed amount for the charge is different from when the original auto adjustment was created Encounters that have not received any third party payments The results of the contract auto-adjustment search appear in the Encounter List section. Reversing Payments, Adjustments, and Refunds

Before user can reverse payments, adjustments, or refunds, the users must be assigned the following rights in System Administrator: Reverse Adjustment to enable users to reverse adjustments from the Transactions tab on the patient's chart. Reverse Auto Adjustments - Batch to enable users to reverse automatic adjustments by using the Reverse Automatic Adjustments process in NextGen® Enterprise PM. To access the Reverse Automatic Adjustments window, select File > Processes > Reverse Auto Adjustments. Reverse Auto Adjustments - Encounter to enable users to reverse automatic adjustments by right-clicking an encounter on the patient's chart and selecting Reverse Auto Adjustment. Reverse Payment to enable users to reverse payments from the Transactions tab in the patient's chart. Reverse Refund enable users to reverse refunds from the Transactions tab in the patient's chart. Reversing Automatic Adjustments

When you remove insurance from an encounter with automatic adjustments applied to charges from an assigned contract and there are no other posted or unposted transactions applied to the encounter, the automatic adjustments are applied to the encounter for the payer. The application reverses the adjustment and removes the insurance from the encounter. Note: The application applies new adjustments to applicable charges if you attach a new payer to the encounter that has a contract with auto adjustments for the charges. You can delete a primary insurance for an encounter that has an automatic adjustment applied to its charges from an assigned contract and the encounter has no other posted or unposted transactions applied to it. You can delete it by selecting Delete on the Insurance tab on the Patient Chart window.
