Third Party Discount Amounts

When you are using a third-party transaction code to apply charge discounts for a payer, the discount amount is calculated for each charge. Encounter Level by Percentage or Dollar Amount You can calculate the discount amount for all charges by percentage or dollar amount. Patient Discount Amounts

You can apply charge discounts for a patient by using a patient transaction code. The discount amount is calculated and applied to each charge as described below. Encounter Level by Percentage and Dollar Amount You can calculate patient discount amount at encounter level by percentage or dollar amount. Line Item Level by Percentage You can calculate patient discount amount at line item level by percentage. Line Item Level by Dollar Amount

When you select Apply patient discount to patient balance only on the Charge Entry tab on the Practice Preferences window and the Line Item and Discount by dollar amount are selected on the Discount Adjustment Code window. You can calculate patient discount amount to the selected charges on the encounter by dividing the patient amount for each charge by the total of all selected patient amounts, and then multiplying the % of total selected patient amounts by the dollar amount. Charge Discount Calculated Amounts

When you apply charge discounts for a payer, the discount amount is always calculated using the Original Charge Amount for each charge. When you apply charge discounts for a patient, the discount amount is calculated using either Original Charge Amount or Patient Amount for each charge. You can determine the discount amount calculation by selecting the Apply patient discount to patient balance only option on the Charge Entry tab in the Practice Preferences window. If the Apply patient discount to patient balance only check box is selected, then Patient Amount is used to calculate patient discounts. If the Apply patient discount to patient balance only check box is not selected, then Original Charge Amount is used to calculate patient discounts. Note: The information in the notepad on the Discounts window changes to reflect the current setting for the Apply patient discount to patient balance only option in Practice Preferences and indicates how discount amounts are calculated based on
