Taxonomy Codes to Groups

You can attach taxonomy codes to groups in two ways: As the group default taxonomy code. At the location level, which overrides the group default taxonomy code. At the procedure (CPT4) level, which overrides the location level taxonomy code. This level enables you to attach different taxonomy codes based on specific CPT4 ranges. Attach Taxonomy Codes to Providers

You can attach taxonomy codes to: providers as the provider default taxonomy code for the enterprise. providers at the practice level, which overrides the provider default taxonomy code. You can add taxonomy codes at this level by location on the payer rows, either default or specific. The most specific setting is always selected above the other settings. Note: If the provider has a different taxonomy code for different service locations and payers, then the taxonomy code must be attached for each service location and payer. Attach Taxonomy Codes to DME Regional Carriers

You can attach taxonomy codes to DME Regional Carriers at the system and practice levels. If you need taxonomy codes for CPT4 codes for items such as prosthetics or orthotics, you can define the codes to be used at the CPT4 level. To attach a taxonomy code, perform the following steps: From the Master Files list, select System > DME Regions. Select the region. Select either the System or Practice tab. If you want to select a default taxonomy code for the carrier, select a code from the Taxonomy Code field. If you want to set taxonomy codes for specific procedure ranges, select the CPT4 Group Information button. The CPT4 Taxonomy Information for DME LIbrary window displays. Select the Open Menu button, and then select New. The Taxonomy Information for CPT4 Range window displays. The Taxonomy Information for CPT4 Range window enables you to enter a range of CPT4 numbers. You can attach taxonomy codes for group billing in the Payer master file. These codes override the Group master file taxonomy code. You can attach these codes to: Payers at the practice level for specific locations. This setting is only for UB claims. Alternate payers for a specific location. Taxonomy Codes Master File

To meet HIPAA requirements, a Taxonomy code may be required by some payers. Taxonomy codes are maintained at the Enterprise level in the Taxonomy master files and they are attached to the provider in the Provider Master. Taxonomy codes classify health care providers according to provider type or practitioner specialty in an electronic environment. The codes that: Are pre-loaded in the Taxonomy Code field in the Provider master file do not display in the Taxonomy master file, so they cannot be edited or hidden. Display in the Taxonomy master file are those that you create and can be edited or hidden. Note: The taxonomy code set is maintained by the National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC).
